Amazing Antique Repousse 800 Silver frame with Black Velour Purse & handmade chain

This beautiful black Velour and Coin Silver(800/1000 silver) purse date back to the turn of the century. It has a lovely pleated Velour exterior and cloth lining. The exterior is a beautifully woven heavy knap Velourthat us simply LUXURIOUS. The combination of ruffled Black Velour and Sterling Silver is stunning and SO STYLISH. These luxurious fabrics are all held together by a lovely Silver frame that features a romantic BASKET of FLOWERS surrounded by flowers OVER A SCALLOPED EDGED. The brackets for strap are chased hoops and the clasp is pine cones. It measures 9.5"L X 8.5"H with a 7.5 drop.

From top of the chain to the bottom is a total of about 14. The frame is 6long and it opens a few inches wide The total weight of the purse is 139g. The frame is marked 800 above both hinges, the 8 is poorly stuck so it's hard to read.

I've tried to show you in the photos. The Velour is in excellent vintage Condition with no thin spots that I can see. The frame and chain are also in excellent vintage Condition, the clasp closure is nice and tight. The right side of the frame has about a 16th of an inch gap when closed, which is hardly noticeable or can easily be fixed if you feel the need. The purses only real fault is the lining, which looks like was not original and is coming apart at the bottom and should either be removed or replaced. The chain is a beautiful example of hand cast silver links that is in excellent Condition. A small note on 800 silver. In most of Europe (especially Italy and Germany) during the 1800s and early 1900s 800 silver was a common purity of what was considered sterling silver. At the same time in America it was considered coin silver.

So there to vall it sterling or coin can be considered cirrect as it was commonly used and considered sterling (albeit the lowest purity) in the country it was manufactured in, so neither term is wrong and for the period are virtually interchangeable. It is a 12 percent difference that actually makes the piece stronger and wear better since Silver is so soft. If you have any questions feel free to ask.
