Amazing unique handmade antique rocking horse; a complete one-off! Made in Limousin, France by the grandfather of a German neighbour. He was inspired after a trip to either the British Museum or the V&A - the details were somewhat lost in translation between him and my father - to make an exact replica of one he saw there. I would say it was made roughly 80-90 years ago - 1920s-1930s. Made in sturdy wood, with leather saddle, hand-painted, with real horse hair tail.It has bow rockers so you can go right back and forward to the ends. Its 80cm high by 125cm long. Its beautifully engineered to rock all the way there without tipping, quite a thrilling ride. Sturdily made as you can see in the last photo. As you can see in the photos you may well want to refurb it. But our daughter loved it as it is. Unfortunately, she's now outgrown it.
The missing handle was no issue as she simply held it by the ears. The other bits to do if you wish are a resaddling, fixing of the broken handle and a touch-up of the paint.
