Antique Natural Human Hair Braided Bow Brooch, Sweden

This sweet brooch was executed in incredibly painstaking detail from a most delicate and personal material - human hair. The brooch is in near perfect condition.

The pin and C - clasp are in a good working condition. Most of jewellery and other ornaments of human hair were native to Våmhus.

Våmhus is a group of small villages near the shore of lake Orsa in central Sweden. Swedes knew that hair work could be made at Våmhus and orders came together with a braid of hair in a brown envelope addressed to the "Hair worker" at Våmhus. Unlike the mourning jewellery of the Victorian era here in Sweden more often the hair of the living was worked into sentimental keepsakes or was used to create decorative art works.
