Naturally occuring Medullary Rays are very much in evidence here and are only apparent as the wood has been highly polished. All of these processes were very time consuming and laborious but the end result shows the craftmanship used which has brought out the beauty of this piece of furniture. For further decoration, reeded colums are either side of the doors and quality crafted complete Greek Key moulding has been added across the top of the whole frontage.
A shaped plinth then sits on top of this finishing off the front. Brass H hinges and escutcheons, a steel lock and key with an original hooked latch on the middle shelf and square hammered shaped nails are the hardware fixtures and fastenings. On opening the door 3 fan shaped shelves become visible. The interior has been originally painted in a deep green colour which is untouched.Three holes have been historically created internally to suspend the piece originally to a wall, these fixings have been removed. This piece of furniture would look amazing as a floor standing cupboard as well and could be used for glassware or bottles. The top would never be seen anyway if attached up on a wall. There is a crack between the back panels and is shown in the photograph number 11. Height 1000mm Width at front 720mm Depth Each Way 500mm.
